The details

The whole cap squashes — it is solid silicone, not a shell, so it takes being dropped, squeezed and slept on. A tap on the top cycles the brightness; the charge lasts several nights of ordinary use. Warm white only, with none of the colour-cycling that makes most novelty lamps unusable in a bedroom.

Styling it

It belongs on a bedside table or a low shelf where the glow sits below eye level. Two at different heights read better than one — the faces are slightly different, so they look like a pair rather than a repeat.
