The details
The neck holds its position anywhere along its bend, so the dome can be turned down onto a book or up at a wall. The base is weighted to stop the lamp walking when the neck is extended. Light comes out of the underside of the dome only, which is what keeps the glare off the rest of the room.
Styling it
Angle the dome at a wall rather than into the room and it becomes an uplighter. It suits a surface with something tall next to it — a vase, a stack of books — because the low dome needs a vertical beside it to read properly.
