The details
The column is metal all the way up, not plastic with a metal wrap, which is why it has weight in the hand. Light comes out of the frosted cap only, so there is no visible bulb at any angle. It charges over USB and runs for several evenings on the lowest of its brightness settings.
Styling it
It suits a surface that is already busy — a desk, a kitchen counter, a console with things on it — because the narrow footprint does not ask for clearance. On an empty shelf it can look lost.
