The details

Ceramic burrs do not corrode, which is what lets the same mill take salt as well as pepper — steel mechanisms rust on salt and eventually seize. The body is turned from acacia, so the grain wraps the sphere and every mill is figured differently. It is worked by turning the whole ball rather than a crank, which is easier one-handed.

Styling it

Most mills are tall and get put away. This one is a wooden sphere, which is why it can stay on the table between meals.
