The details

Cast solid rather than hollow, which is why it weighs what it does for its size. The surface is left raw off the mould with only the sprue cleaned back, so the brass is warm and slightly matte rather than mirror-polished. It will darken over months. That is the material behaving normally.

Styling it

It reads best on something dark — walnut, slate, a black tray — where the brass separates. On pale wood it disappears.
