Cast resin. Cast resin takes a consistent matte finish; very small surface marks from the mould seam are normal and usually invisible at arm's length.

The details
Objects on bookshelves usually have nothing to do with books, which is why they look like they were put there to fill a gap. This one does not have that problem. The form is simplified enough that it does not tip into literal, and the seated posture keeps it low and stable.
Styling it
Between two stacks of books, or at the end of a row acting as a soft bookend — though it is not weighted to hold a full shelf, so do not ask it to.
