The details

Nothing on it is decorative. The well is recessed so ash collects instead of blowing across the surface, and the single hole is angled so a stick leans rather than stands, which keeps the burning tip over the plate. Matte glaze on the top, unglazed underneath so it grips.

Styling it

Because it is flat and low it disappears next to taller things, which is the point — it belongs beside a lamp or a stack of books rather than on its own. Pale surfaces suit it better than dark.
