The details

The outline is not decorative — it follows the natural edge of the plank, which is why no two are the same shape and why the grain always runs the long way through the piece. Cut from a single board rather than glued up from strips, so there is no seam to open when it gets wet.

Styling it

Irregular shapes do the work that a round tray cannot: they break up a table of straight lines. One on a counter with nothing on it is not a wasted object.
